The Grand Canal Tunnel connecting Suzhou Xutao Road and Hengshan Road was completed and opened to traffic on October 18, 2023. This project uses a large-section, long-distance rectangular pipe jacking method to pass under the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal. It is the first underpass of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province.

The Grand Canal Tunnel connecting Xutao Road and Hengshan Road in Suzhou adopts the standard design of urban trunk roads, with four lanes in both directions and a total length of about 896 meters. The design speed in the tunnel is 40 kilometers per hour. Among them, the jacking project is divided into two single-hole tunnels, the south and north. The south line jacking tunnel is 215.9 meters long and the north line jacking tunnel is 154.9 meters long.
The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal is the longest ancient canal in the world, and conventional construction methods are difficult to meet the canal protection requirements. China Railway Shanghai Engineering Bureau adopts a non-excavation method of rectangular jacking construction, which not only ensures the normal operation of the canal waterway, but also avoids damaging the water quality environment of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal.
The size of the super-large cross-section rectangular jacking provided by our company this time is 9800*5900mm. Previously, the 10400*7500mm rectangular jacking tube designed and produced by our company is the largest cross-section rectangular jacking tube in China.
